Klaipėda University is one of the highly reputed Lithuanian universities that is based at the Lithuanian seaport of Klaipėda. The university was been established on January 1, 1991, by a ruling of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament). The new university campus initiated the rise of the higher education within the city. During its start, it only comprised of around 3,000 students and just three faculties (Humanities and natural sciences, Marine Engineering, and Pedagogy).

As of now, the university has grown and developed  to around  seven faculties and eight institutes, where the list includes  faculties of Natural Science and Mathematics, Art, Pedagogy, Humanities, Marine Engineering, Social Sciences, and Health Sciences; Maritime Institute, Coastal Research and Planning Institute, Seascape Institute, Institute of Continuing Studies, Institute of Baltic Sea Region History and Archaeology, Institute of Regional Policy and Planning, Mechatronics Institute, and Musicology Institute. The Institute currently has around 4000 students and 600 persons with in their educational staff. On the other side, the university offers a wide array of courses to both its local and International students i.e  54 undergraduate (bachelor’s degree), 4 specialized professional, 48 graduate (master’s degree), and 11 postgraduate (doctoral) study programs.

Famous Alumnis

Ever since the institute came into picture,  it has produced more than 33,600 graduates, including some of the most famous doctors, scientists, politicians, government executives, entrepreneurs, engineers, cultural figures, educators and performers. Vasilijus Safronovas comes over as a highly reputed historian who also got graduated from this institute. Moroever, famous singer and filmmaker Ingrida Valinskien also graduated from here. The list further includes  Eligijus Masiulis who is a renowned  politician and earlier served as Lithuania’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Agn Bilotait who is a crucial member of Seimas, Tomas Šernas  who  has served as a customs officer after being surviving through a  gunshot to the head during the infamous Medininkai Massacre.
